Preparation Meets Opportunity
Trusting in God’s provision and grace gives us hope; a hope that the opportunity to rise above our challenges and difficulties will come in His time and in His terms. This is especially true for people who are in the midst of suffering and pain. Be it in the form of poverty, hunger, illnesses, or even relationship issues, hope in God is what keeps us walking in faith.
In response to this hope, we prepare. We work our land. We use the gifts, passions, and skills that God has given to us to faithfully labour. It takes faith to labour for the future. Without hope, we give up.
This is the reason and heart behind the Digital Skills Training Centre.
Our Vision for DSTC
DSTC (short for Digital Skills Training Centre) is BDR’s statement to our community that not all hope is lost. Jesus, our living hope, is our abundant provider and comforter. We can invest in ourselves by developing our skillsets to have a better chance at employment and business.
We began with a smaller vision of equipping people with digital skills to increase their employability and learning capability. Over time, God grew our vision to encompass many other skillsets that can catalyse businesses and employment. However, we still keep the name DSTC is because we believe in digitising business processes to make them more manageable and sustainable. Examples could be digital marketing for food stalls, utilising takeaway/delivery apps, etc.
We want to see employment rates increase in our community and fathers and mothers meaningfully employed in stable jobs with some possibility of career progression. We want to empower families with dreams of setting up their own businesses while receiving mentorship and financing.
Our Beginnings
As all our staff have moved out of the community centre and now living in the TreeHouse (see below), we also have more space in the centre to house our training facility.
We’ll be investing in a handful of laptops and set up a computer lab for basic digital skills training. We’ll also convert one of the rooms into a training room to run finance and business workshops. We thank RiverLife Church Singapore for partnering with us to make this project a reality.
